I have found that I was very sensitive to numbers and good at math and data analysis since I was a high school student. At that time, my math scores were always very high, and I yearned for the work of the accountants in the office building. They look very professional, so I want to become one of them. Therefore, I chose accounting as my major when I took the undergraduate program. However, in the fourth years of my bachelor’s degree, I worked as an intern in a real estate company. I found that I was more interested in management department, so that is the main reason of pursuing the major of management. In addition, I want to expand the breadth of the knowledge rather than the depth. To be more specific, I think my accounting knowledge is enough to deal with the future work, so I do not want to continue studying accounting courses but choose the management which I am more interested in. Also, these accounting knowledges will be helpful for my future study in management because I know that the courses of management have some related accounting courses, such as financial accounting. The above two reasons are the main reasons that I want to apply for the full-time graduate student program in management.
Although practice is the sole criterion for testing truth, theoretical knowledge is the cornerstone of practice. The main purpose of applying the graduate degree is to increase these cornerstones to a higher level. Knowledge is inexhaustible, and learning more knowledge is not harmful for the future career. First of all, I have the related knowledge with the major of management, such as financial management, senior financial accounting, statistics, cost accounting. Besides, I have enough learning ability. For example, in four undergraduate years, I have taken totally two times scholarships of our business school, so that meant I have enough learning ability to overcome various difficulties of study in the future. Secondly, I have some work experience that is beneficial for my graduate study. During the period of summer holiday, I worked as an assistant in a real estate company, and I learned a lot during that period. I followed in an experience accountant and learnt the actual operation of financial statement and accounts. I also handle with the basic accounting entry alone and dealt with cash, notes of financial activities between company and bank. This experience also laid the foundation for my future career goals because I want to find a job in the bank industry in the future.
During the undergraduate period, my major was accounting, but I want to apply for Master of Science in Management. There are some reasons. First of all, I think the content of accounting is enough for my future career, and the courses of accounting and management are not conflict. For example, there are two major courses of management: statistics and financial accounting I have already taken in my undergraduate degree, so it is not difficult for me to study these courses although I am an international student. Besides, when I was a young girl, I was really good at communicating with different people. Therefore, I am always interested in human resources and addressing difficult problems in corporation. I thought the people who work in business building are very cool and professional. I want to be one of them, so I prefer to choose the business field for my future career.
The United State looks like a melting pot which contains people of different countries, so if I could handle interpersonal relationship in such environment, I will deal with the difficulty of cooperation in any future workplace. First of all, for the classmates, I think the most important thing is to help each other when we are assigned with a task in a group. In the process, I also need to respect their cultures of different countries. About the teamwork, sometimes I need to be the leader, but sometimes I need to be a follower. I will adjust the two roles in order to the successful teamwork. For example, we were assigned to four MCP group in EAP 507 this semester. This project required us to do an academic paper and poster as a group. It sounds like very easy because of group assignment, but it is more difficult than individual assignment because every member has their own ideas, so it is hard to balance so many different ideas. In general, I am afraid to be the leader, but this time I usually became the leader to arrange the task for teach one. Therefore, this project not only improve my communication ability but also the leader skill. On the other hand, I will communicate with professors as much as I can for the better academic development. For example, when I have any questions, I will make an appointment with my professor to discuss my question. In addition, if the professor needs some help, I hope that I could become a good assistant for them. In short, I will try my best to network and collaborate with others.
I have planned my graduate program already. On the one hand, I will pay more attention on my academic development, so it means that I need to do well on all of my course. On the other hand, I also want to increase my experience for my future career. I have always been interested in data and investment, so I want to find a job which relates to the bank field in the future. I know that the requirement of bank is generally very high, so I need to study well now. In addition, at the end of the graduate program, I would like to find an internship in the bank to increase my experience. In the past, I have already contacted with bank because the internship of accountant had some work with bank, so I am familiar with the professional work in bank.
